About Madeira...

Benefits to Madeira

  • Community Usability - Turf significantly increases use by the community for recreational sports, fundraisers and community events.
  • Creates an opportunity to host regional athletic championships, concerts and multi-cultural events (to draw all residents of the community)
  • Scheduling Ease - Always "Camelot Weather" conditions...a non-factor in playability
  • "Madeira" Brand - Current stadium structure does not exemplify the excellence and commitment of the Madeira community and its schools.
  • Safety - Numerous studies have concluded that a Field Turf surface is more safe than conventional grass fields.

Community Feedback

"An artificial turf field would be a great asset not only for our school teams, but for the community recreational programs as well."
Steve Kramer, Superintendent Madeira City Schools

"There is a high demand for recreation and athletic field space in Madeira. While everyone recognizes the health and social benefits to our children and families when we have facilities which can accommodate our sport and recreational activities, the cost of property acquisition is prohibitive. A new artificial surface at Madeira High School will significantly increase the amount of available field space in our community at a fraction of the cost."
Sara Evans, Madeira City Council

"It's been unfortunate that our facilities have not matched the first-class effort and performance that our kids have put forth in our fall athletic programs. Having a first-rate facility is a privilege that our athletes deserve. I'm sure our players would take great pride in playing on a field that matches nearly everything else associated with our programs."
Jon Unger, Madeira Mustang "2 Time State Champion" Soccer Coach

"The first benefit is SAFETY! One good rain followed by a week of High School varsity soccer and football games, in addition to Madeira Colts games and St. Gertrude games can leave the field in an unsafe condition. Once the field dries, you are left with large divots and uneven footing that remains until the next good rain, in which the process repeats! Another benefit will be that our student athletes will WANT to play on this surface!"
Steve Phelps, Madeira Mustang Football Coach

"A serious benefit of field turf would be the reward it gives to our athletes. At least for the past 4-5 years the boys and girls soccer teams have earned the reward of hosting sectional tournament games (because of high ranking), but because of our field conditions in late October we have had to move to neutral sites."
Dan Brady, Amazon Varsity "2005 District Champion" Soccer Coach

"With field turf, the band would be able to practice on the field every morning. We wouldn't track mud through the school, saving time on clean-up, and the students wouldn't trash clothes every day. Starting in the middle of September we can count on at least one day a week of rain. There are no fields usable by the band even if it rains very little. We lose at least one day of practice per week due to the mud and dangerous conditions on the surface of the stadium and the practice field. A turf field is a win-win situation for everyone."
Kevin Engel, Madeira HS Band Director

"A big problem in the Madeira City Schools is the condition of the athletic field of the high school. The district is investing bond money for new buildings and future operating levies are going to be used for everyday expenses, but no money has been set aside for field improvements. During the 2005 varsity home football game against Indian Hill, a local news station and The Cincinnati Enquirer featured the game and highlighted the treacherous drainage and resulting mud problems. The hard ground is also an obstacle during hot, dry weather, and the scattered grass growth, rocks, holes and generally uneven terrain. Madeira has always supported extra-curricular activities but due to limited funds the district has not invested in adequate outdoor athletic facilities. The investment of a year round turf would provide multiple uses and additional playing time and could also benefit the Madeira Colts program, St. Gertrude football and other community recreational sports. I hope by the time I'm a senior at Madeira High School, I have the privilege of playing a home football game on a new turf field."
Brad Rusk, Madeira High School Sophomore
